Blue Like Jazz // Live is a solo theatrical multimedia performance developed and performed by internationally renowned actor Jason Hildebrand. The performance is based on best-selling post-modern author, Donald Miller's book - Blue Like Jazz – Non Religious Thoughts On Christian Spirituality.
The performance is a personal, raw and humorous reflection on spirituality, God, and community. It is an honest and unexpected journey - a scrapbook of one man's life.
It incorporates the use of video and motion graphics projected onto a 12'x7' video screen backdrop. It also features an original jazz music soundscape by award winning musician Paul Neufeld.
The purpose of Blue Like Jazz // Live, besides being an amazing theatrical experience, is to be a catalyst for drawing people into a deeper exploration of the soul and to foster community.
This is accomplished through partnering with Christian organizations (Church and Para-church organizations, University ministries and theatre companies) that provide a non-threatening environment in which to experience the production, which asks the big questions of life in a humorous way all the while pointing them to the God of the Bible.
Though the performance continues to work powerfully in church settings (especially if the venue is designed for theatrical production, ie. Willow Creek), it has been most effective when an organization sponsors and promotes the performance in a non-church theatrical venue (ie. a local theater).

LIFE OF DAVID (Approximately 70 minutes - recommended for all ages)
Life of David is a scriptural solo performance. The text is taken almost entirely from a modern translation of the Old Testament. The Word of God comes alive for all ages!
Each of the 23 characters portrayed in the performance is brought to life through various dialects, mannerisms and emotions. Combined with scripture these elements work together to form a dramatic and dynamic story that searches out the heart of David.
This epic journey travels the span of David's life: from his anointing by Samuel the Prophet, through the wilderness, to his throne room, and then on to his final words and death. It is a performance overflowing with passion, rage, weeping, laughter, and worship!

THE PRODIGAL SON TRILOGY (Approximately 30 minutes - recommended for all ages)
The Prodigal Son Trilogy is three monologues based on the Luke 15 parable of Jesus. Each monologue is spoken from the perspective of a different character in the story. The inspiration for these monologues came from a song by Keith Green called The Prodigal Son Suite, a painting by Rembrandt entitled, The Return of the Prodigal Son and a book inspired by the same painting, written by Henri Nouwen, also called The Return of the Prodigal Son.

HEROD THE GREAT (Approximately 30 minutes - ages 12 and up)
The Old Testament prophecies haunt him, the Star Gazers from the east alluded him. This Christmas monologue recounts the events surrounding Christ's birth through the eyes of the powerful and psychotic ruler Herod the Great.

HIMSELF - THE STORY OF A.B. SIMPSON (Approximately 30 minutes in length - recommended for all ages) JESUS ONLY - The founder of the Christian and Missionary Alliance denomination reveals his passion for missions and testifies to God's work in his life as his Savior, Sanctifier, Healer, and coming King. Truly this was an inspiring man who gave all for Jesus.
